GSG College inaugurated a Digital Classroom in October of last year thanks in large part to two generous Rotary Club equipment grants. Altus Area Sunset Rotary Club, based in Altus, Oklahoma, provided a grant to purchase a Smart TV, and Ozark Rotary Club, based in Ozark, Arkansas, provided a grant to purchase a projector.
The grants were facilitated by SESA and the passionate leadership of Rotarian A.C. Moncrief, who had befriended Ram Gawande and visited GSG College when both were appointed Governors for their respective Rotary Districts. During the 2009-2010 Rotary term, Mr. Moncrief was Governor for District 6110, which covers parts of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas, and Dr. Gawande was Governor for District 6690, which covers Central and Southeast Ohio.
GSG faculty and students generally use chalk and blackboards in classrooms. The Digital Classroom will allow faculty to use photos, graphics, PowerPoint presentations, and other digital tools to help students better understand complex concepts. The equipment will also help improve digital literacy among students, benefiting an estimated 2,000 students each year.
